I somehow managed to get through high-school without reading a single entire book that was assigned. I'm not proud of it, but there are many books in the world, and I wasn't convinced these were the ones I ought to read. Being forced to read sapped the pleasure.
But, I did read `The Hot Zone` for extra credit in Mr. Waz' Biology class, and I realized the pleasure of reading for myself. I knew I wanted to read and be a Reader. Though, on my own time.
I lived alone in my early twenties and made a point to make time to read. I still cherish my reading time and am appreciative of the way it has changed me, in time. Since I begin reading for myself, I've kept track of all the books I've read, in the order I read them. It's a rich chronology for me - seeing new and key concepts, milestones in thought, as well as a type of temporal yardstick reminding me where I was, or what I was experiencing at the time I was reading a given book.
After moving from a house in Vacaville to an apartment in San Francisco, I decided to digitize the effort. My digital bookshelf is currently being powered by Google Books Goodreads.
If you've stumbled onto my site out of curiosity or coincidence, consider diving into any of these books from my digital bookshelf. Disclaimer: the Amazon affiliate links below credit me if you decide to buy a book below. In any case, I respect your love of knowledge, too.
